“Christi competed for Western Australia (Athletics West) at the Australian Track & Field Championships held in Brisbane at the Queensland Sports & Athletics Centre (QSAC) between 13-16th April 2023.
She competed in the Womens U17 2000m Steeplechase on Saturday afternoon 15-04-2023, with 20 of the nation’s best on the start line. Christi ran faster and navigated the steeples better than she ever had before and crossed the line 0.54 of a second behind second place to claim BRONZE in a 4 second PB time of 7:07.39. She was ranked 7th in times so had to pull something extraordinary out of the bag to collect a medal, which she did. She has never been so ecstatic! This is what all the hours of training are for!
May we thank the SESF for the invaluable financial assistance that was offered to Christi, to help with the large costs associated with participating at the National Championships on the other side of the country. It was an incredible opportunity that has been a massive steppingstone in Christi’s athletic journey to becoming the best possible.
Thank you so much again.”

“Thank you for allowing James the wonderful opportunity to represent Team Vic at the Australian School Sports Swimming Championships in Brisbane in August 2022. James is a hearing impaired swimmer and competes as an S15 swimmer in the Multi Class category. He competed in 7 individual events and was in the top 8 in all his events, with his best result 5th place.
He also was lucky enough to compete in 2 relays and the highlight of his trip was his relay team finishing with a bronze medal! Another highlight for him was a School Outing to Dreamworld where they had a Tiger talk, and had fun on all the rides, and he even went on the roller coaster with all his team mates, which he loved!
James got to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity with his Dad supporting him all the way and this invaluable experience would not have been possible without the support and scholarship James received from the Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund.
Thank you so much for this scholarship, as parents of a child with a disability this has been a once in a lifetime opportunity for James, which has not only taught him about team work, dedication, discipline and how to interact with other school kids from both within Victoria and other States, but it has also taught James that he is part of an amazing sporting community which accepts you for who you are.
No matter your disability, always reach for your dreams and know that anything is possible if you go for it!
THANK YOU SESF for your financial support – this could not have happened without you!”
